Babies and Young Children: When Safety and Hygiene are Crucial!

Where visitors come with babies and young children, consideration must given to safety and hygiene. But what measures can you take?

Places where visitors come with young children maybe, for example, large shops, restaurants, hotels, swimming pools, indoor playgrounds, airports and other public spaces. Safety and hygiene for the youngest visitors are crucial.  But how is a safe and hygienic environment created?

Provide the sanitary areas with a baby changing table:

This has the following advantages:

  • The presence of a baby changing table ensures that the visitors do not have to put children on the floor to change them.  If children are changed on the ground this can be annoying for other visitors and it is not hygienic.
  • It offers parents/guardians convenience and comfort because they can change the child at the right height and do not have to bend over.
  • Visitors can hang up their belongings on the hooks provided, on the changing table, so that the floor area remains clear.

What makes the baby changing table safe and hygienic?

- The baby changing table is equipped with a nylon safety belt. The child is therefore always fixed and cannot roll off the changing table.  However, it is not advisable to leave the child alone or out of reach on the baby changing table under any circumstances.

- The baby changing table is equipped with a dispenser for changing paper/cloths.

- The baby changing table is made of bacteria resistant plastic and is equipped with Biocote protection. This coating ensures that the changing table is easy to clean and inhibits the growth of odour causing bacteria.

Good hanging of a baby changing table!

If possible, it’s best to hang a baby changing table in a clear corner, so other visitors are not inconvenienced. There are vertical and horizontal baby changing tables available, depending on the application and room layout.

Make sure you allow sufficient space for the parent/guardian standing in front of the baby changing table. See below for the dimensions of the horizontal and vertical baby changing table.

The recommended installation height is 800 mm from the lowest point.  Do you want to hang the changing table within a disabled toilet? An installation height of 700 mm is applicable from the lowest point.

Note that baby changing tables cannot be mounted on plasterboard or hollow walls!

Make it easy for your visitors

Provide extra comfort to visitors with young children by clearly indicating where baby changing facilities are provided. This can be done by means of an icon. The icon is easy to attach to smooth surfaces (eg a door) with the strong tape supplied.

Provide a good waste bin

In addition to normal waste, nappies lead to waste bins filling up more quickly. Therefore, choose a large waste bin that can be closed properly, so that no odours escape. Empty the waste bin regularly.
